Seachtain na Gaeilge / St. Patrick's Week Summary
Seachtain na Gaeilge
We enjoyed using as much Irish as possible in our classroom this week. The boys are super for trying their best each week to use their Gaeilge so this did not come as something new to them.
We studied hard for our visit to the Caife Gaelach. This was a tremendous success as the boys mingled with other classes and shared their Irish with them. Our thanks goes to Ms. Millane and company for her hard work and organisation.
Music
We kept all things Irish and traditional this week as we learned about the famous Irish harpist Turlough O'Carolan. The boys were surprised when finding out the differences between the Irish harp and a 'standard' harp. We learned that O'Carolan had many patrons who commissioned tunes to be composed by himself for themselves or their families. The tunes that honoured these people were called 'planxties'.
The Shamrock
We were glad to see Mr. Dillon this week. He highlighted the significance of shamrock and its association with St. Patrick's Day.
